5. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Members of the public were in attendace at the meeting to discuss issues with Donkey Lane. They raised the issue that the owner of the property ‘Meadowside’ in Donkey Lane was trying to claim land that was not currently his, as his. He had put in an application to Land Registryto try and take ownership of and from the bottom of Donkey Lane right down through to the back of 77 Orchard Crescent.. This piece of land is regularly used by many people as a footpath, this has been so for over 60 years members of the public stated. Members of the public also stated that it had been a full track many years ago. Council were advised by some members of the public present that the owner of Meadowside had been particularly abusive to people walking along this route and that he had already moved his garden fence further out in an attempt to gain more land. Parish Council advised any abusive behaviour to be logged by the members of the public and to call the police if the situation was deemed necessary. The Parish Council had been tipped off about this situation shortly before the meeting and had immediately contacted Highways who had advised that the footpath/right of way was not on the definitive maps but that an application could be put together, with evidence from walkers, that it should be on the map as a footpath/right of way. Evidence forms from members of the public who had used this route for many years, would need to be filled out and collectively sent back by the Parish Council. Parish Clerk to make sure residents had the necessary forms. The Parish Council had also been in contact with Land Registry about this land claim as they had not been made formerly aware, however it had been brought to their attention that Bridport Town Council had been made aware. Land Registry had only sent forms to the Town Council and the Parish Council would have to state their case to the Land Registry in order to be able to make comment on the application. Clerk to deal. Parish Council were made aware by members of the public that Kitson & Trotman were the solicitors acting for the owner of Meadowside in his case to claim the land. Clerk was asked to speak to Kitson and Trotman to lodge objections to the proposal. The Council were in agreement that this footpath/right of way had been in use for many years – Chairman P Lathey himself had been using this route for over 60 years.
